The fourth edition of LEQUIA photo contest to celebrate World Water Day has a new category of corporative participation

22nd March is World Water Day. LEQUIA celebrates this date with a Twitter and Instagram photo contest. The topic of this fourth edition is “Wastewater”.

Two categories

As a novelty, the 2017 edition offers two participation categories: individual, open to all participants older than 18 years old, and corporative, for companies, universities, technological centres, research groups, public entities and any other type of organization that wants to participate in the contest through its Twitter or Instagram account/s.

Participants should publish a photo in Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #WorldWaterDayLEQUIAInd (category individual) or #WorldWaterDayLEQUIACor (category corporative) from Friday 3rd March 8 a.m. to Wednesday 22nd March 12 a.m. The twit should also mention @LEQUIA_UdG account. The Instagram post should mention lequiaudg account.

A prize of 100€ will be awarded to the best photo of the individual category while a set of technical books will be the prize offered by Campus UdG Aigua to the winner of the corporative category. The jury will assess the quality and originality of the photograph, and its capacity to express the objectives and values of World Water Day 2017. Moreover, a selection of the best photos submitted will be shown on LEQUIA, Campus UdG Water and University of Girona websites and social networks.

Wastewater: World Water Day 2017 topic

In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March as the first World Water Day. 23 years later, World Water Day is celebrated around the world shining the spotlight on a different issue every year; this 2017, wastewater.

Globally, 80% of all the wastewater from our homes, cities, industry and agriculture flows back to nature without being treated or reused – polluting the environment, and losing valuable nutrients and other recoverable materials. Instead of wasting wastewater, we need to reduce and reuse it. This is the only way we have to manage it in a sustainable way.

We invite you to take part in this contest and send us photos on “wastewater”! You can get inspired by visiting the  website that UN has devoted to this date , find out about the online resources of the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), or watch the photos submitted to the  2014, 2015 and 2016 editions of this contest on our Facebook.

Do not forget to download the extended rules for participation!
