Dr. Manel Garrido, who carried out his doctoral thesis at LEQUIA, has been awarded with one of the two Balsells grants for Catalan researchers doing a post-doctoral research stage at the prestigious Henry Samueli School of Engineering of University of California, Irvine.
The Balsells-Generalitat de Catalunya program was created in 1996 through an agreement signed by the former “Commissionat per a Universitats i Recerca de la Generalitat de Catalunya” and the University of California, Irvine. This program is co-funded by the “Secretaria d’Universitats i Recerca” of the Catalan government, the University of California, Irvine, and the Balsells Fellowship Fund, a fund created by Pere Balsells, a Catalan entrepreneur who resides in California.
Manel Garrido Baserba has a degree in Environmental Sciences from University of Girona (UdG) and holds a PhD in Experimental Sciences, also from UdG. In March 2013 he defended his PhD dissertation about the development of a decision support system to design wastewater treatment plants. The thesis was supervised by Dr. Manel Poch (LEQUIA, UdG) and Dr. Luis Correa (CEIT, University of Navarra). Since then, he has worked in the NOVEDAR_Consolider project, focused on the development of advanced technologies for the treatment and post-treatment of wastewater, and with a consortium integrated by 11 research groups from Spain and the Netherlands.
