From 3rd to 7th September the XII edition of the International Summer School on the Environment of the Institute for the Environment was held. This year’s topic, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and water issues, is one of the current research lines of LEQUIA and is framed within the objectives of the European project ECOTECH SUDOE (www.ecotechsudoe.eu).
The program, which included theoretical and practical lessons, covered the different aspects of the LCA methodology and its application to different process of water treatment and use. On Friday 7th September a field trip to Empuriabrava waste water treatment plant was carried out thanks to Consorci Costa Brava.
The outcome of ISSE2012 is clearly positive, as far as the participation (34 from 9 different countries), the quality of the lecturers (9 experts from 5 different countries from the academic and business fields) and the students’ evaluation are concerned. The Summer School also hosted a meeting of the IWA (International Water Association) working group on LCA for water and waste water treatment.
All the lectures can be found in the book “Life Cycle Assesment and Water Management-related issues”, edited by Dr. Joaquim Comas and Sadurní Morera from LEQUIA.
