Delegates from South-Korean firm GS Engineering&Construction visit LEQUIA

The visit was done within the framework of a technical meeting of the research project “MBR control”, led by Dr. Ignasi Rodríguez-Roda. Delegates from GS Engineering&Construction showed their interested in a patent developed by LEQUIA researchers and technicians from the firm INIMA.

The meeting was held at the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) and organized by MBR research group, which integrates researchers from LEQUIA and ICRA. Membrane bioreactors (MBR) are a promising wastewater treatment technology to produce high quality reusable effluents. Their implantation at full industrial scale is only limited by economical costs, which are higher than those of conventional technologies because of its energy consumption. LEQUIA and its industrial partner OHL Medio Ambiente INIMA have developed a technology for the control and automation of MBR able to save up to 25% energy. The technology was patented in 2010 and is currently being registered under the name Smart-Air MBR®. Recently GS E&C has shown interest in implementing this technology in some MBR based WWTP in South-Korea.
